Women's Physical Therapy

The Program

Physical therapy services are available for women of all ages for various common problems. All treatments are individually designed after thorough evaluation.

Incontinence/pelvic weakness

Following urological examination by your doctor, physical therapy may be recommended to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, which support the bladder. Muscles weakened by injury or disuse can be improved with a directed exercise program, biofeedback, behavioral modification and home exercise.

Pelvic Pain

There are many reasons for pelvic pain. A physician's thorough assessment can rule out serious medical problems. Tightness and spasm of pelvic floor muscles can contribute to pelvic pain. Physical therapy intervention can include the use of physical agents, stretching, relaxation exercises, biofeedback, manual techniques and home exercises.

Osteoporosis

Many women suffer from osteoporosis, a loss of bone density. A specific exercise program can be developed to strengthen postural musculature, increase mobility, and reduce the pain arising from this condition.

Fibromyalgia

Muscle tenderness, fatigue, and sleeplessness are all symptoms of this syndrome. Physical therapy intervention can include stretching, postural correction, low-level endurance activities and home exercise. Aquatic physical therapy in our warm water pool can be an excellent adjunct to treatment.

Musculoskeletal Pain Associated With Pregnancy

A woman's changing body during and after pregnancy creates new stresses to the musculoskeletal system, often resulting in spinal or extremity pain. A comprehensive evaluation can determine how your body movements may contribute to your pain. A treatment program can include postural correction, instruction in a specific exercise program, orthotic consideration, home exercise and instruction in biomechanics.

Mastectomy

Mastectomy may be accompanied by tightness in the chest muscles, limited cervical or shoulder mobility and pain. Physical therapy intervention can include evaluation, soft tissue mobilization, postural correction, upper quarter strengthening, and lymphedema management.
